The decision to bring back almost every remaining member of Delta Squad (where you at, Carmine?) signifies a difficulty to move forward using only the new characters, and that ending also reduces the game to merely a springboard for a new trilogy. Gears of War 4 ultimately contains some incredibly mixed messaging from The Coalition. Sure, it might change the way Marcus sees her (which means he’s set to return in the next entry, unfortunately), but it won’t change the way Kait actually behaves, nor will it reveal any hidden secrets about her actual character, which is what a ‘twist’ is primarily meant to do. This isn’t limited to Kait, however, as JD and Del are also the recipients of some especially poor script work, cutting them down to the Nathan Drake-type swashbuckling rogues, and barely anything more. ![]() Consider what you know about Kait, including her personality traits, and then compare these against the characters of the original Gears of War. Not only this, but we’re rescuing the mother of someone who receives the minimum amount of character development over the course of the game.
